All things GREEN!

Can a colour have an impact on us? Well according to SmallBizTrends

Colour has been known to have a powerful psychological impact on people’s decisions and this knowledge has been harnessed all too well in marketing psychology by designers and marketers alike.”

Some well-known brands like Starbucks, BP & John Deer have all included the colour green in their branding. This colour has been chosen as it represents growth, freshness, and sensitivity to the environment, all very positive connotations.

Green has also at times been given a bad rap. Have you ever said, I am “green with envy”? The origin of this is believed to come directly from the great William Shakespeare himself. In Othello, Lago warns Othello: “Beware, my lord, of jealousy; it is the green-eyed monster which doth mock the meat it feeds on.”

Have you ever been called “green” by someone? If you say that someone is green, you mean that they have had very little experience of life or a particular job. When it was first used in the early 15th century, it referred to a young ox or bull — since these animals were ‘green’ or inexperienced and their horns hadn’t matured, they were called ‘greenhorns’.

Would you purchase a green car? The colour green being unlucky in general is a very old superstition. ... In the motoring world, it is said that green is more relaxing on the eye, so you might be less likely to notice a green car on the road. When you're out driving, green cars may blend in with grass, road signs, hills, covered bus stops, and even fences. Not sure about this, but I was always told by my dad, “never buy a green car”. Even NASCAR drivers, refuse to drive green cars as they fear they may crash!

Now let’s get to the good green stuff. Why green food is good for you, and NO not mouldy food, but the power of green coloured foods. These are packed with nutrients & phytonutrients which assist with healing, they are easy on glucose levels as they are low in sugars and full of fibre and water and may regulate your glucose levels throughout the day. It is said that your metabolism can be increased by tucking into the greens and may assist with weight management too. If you are Irish, you most certainly will LOVE St. Patricks Day, celebrated on 17th March. However, this day has become popular all over the world, with people enjoying GREEN themed parties and events. St. Patrick’s Day observes the death of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. The holiday is a celebration of Irish culture with parades, special food, shamrocks, music, dancing, and a whole lot of green, including green beer. The mythical Leprechaun is tied to this holiday and if you're not familiar with the original legend of the leprechaun, it goes like this: Leprechauns were small pint-sized men who worked as shoemakers and hid gold coins in pots at the end of rainbows. Legend has it that these tiny creatures were very hard to catch because they were so small—but if you were able to catch one, you'd be granted three wishes by the leprechaun in exchange for setting him free.

Some corporates have taken to recognising this day and allowing staff to celebrate and let their hair down a bit. Employers have realised that sometimes, a bit of fun goes a long way as happy and appreciated employees are more productive and often will take less sick leave.

Why not get hold of your corporate gifting specialist and arrange a St Patrick’s day event for your staff. Green company-branded T-shirts can be handed out the day before and when everyone arrives at work, they are given a Green goodie bag, filled with green treats and green branded merchandise. How about green water bottles, green notebooks, green stress balls, green caps, green sunglasses, green lanyards, and so much more. How about a GREEN lunch, in a GREEN lunch box, filled with a healthy GREEN salad?

All these items can be branded with the company logo and the recipients will remember their St Patrick’s Day experience at work forever. Why not end the day off with a group photo which can be framed and displayed in the canteen to remind them all of their wonderfully fun GREEN day?
